Director, Media and Communications

The Role

This important role works closely with the CEO, Executive Directors and Director, Policy and Advocacy and is responsible for executing a strategic media and communications plan. This is a full-time role requiring flexible hours with the possibility of external hours.

With proven experience in writing copy that sells, the Director, Media & Communications is responsible for proactively engaging with key media and communication stakeholders and requires exceptional interpersonal relationship skills and strong political acumen. 

The successful candidate will be required to seek out and leverage traditional media opportunities (print, radio, television), and will possess a detailed understanding of digital channels, content marketing and how to maximise reach and engagement through social media, email marketing and web content.

Skills and Experience
  • Tertiary studies in public relations, journalism, communications or similar
  • Ability to drive digital engagement and uplift is paramount
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills including press releases, discussion papers, social media content, and internal and external newsletters
  • Willing to lead and create opportunities
  • Liaise with media daily
  • Ability to host panels and to be the Master of Ceremonies for events is favourable
  • Resilience to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Competency working within a team or individually, while also providing valuable input and ideas to other areas of the business
